The discussion will explore whether the backlash faced by such actors limits the space for dialogue or not and if such forms of online activism are capable of normalizing discussions about taboos towards breaking the stigma around them. \nThe aim of this panel is to open a discussion on how to continue to normalize conversations around taboo topics that hinder gender justice and reinforce traditional gender roles and stereotypes. \n  \nPanel 2: From receiving to leading: How feminist leadership in digital media reshapes narrative \nSpeakers: Maysaloun Nassar\, Rasha Hilwi\, Diana Moukalled\, Nada Abdel Samad\, Tala Elissa \n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n\nModerator: Rawaa Auje \nDuration: 90 minutes \nThis panel discussion will tap into the transformative potential of feminist leadership\, \nparticularly in media\, and highlight the significance of editorial decision-making that upholds and amplifies feminist and queer perspectives without silencing them. They provide valuable insights into collective experiences\, shedding light on broader patterns of oppression\, exploitation\, resilience\, and triumph. Women’s stories foster empathy and understanding among individuals. They humanize the experiences of women\, \nallowing others to recognize the shared humanity and struggles across different backgrounds and cultures. Such stories have the potential to serve as catalysts for social change. When people hear and empathize with these stories\, it can inspire them to act and challenge existing power structures. Such narratives can help dismantle oppressive systems and work towards a more equitable society. \nThe panelists will be discussing how reflecting women’s stories and other marginalized individuals in the digital space contributes to a greater understanding of the multi-faceted challenges and obstacles they encounter due to societal norms\, biases\, and discrimination.

Some campaigns have been instrumental in driving shifts in social and cultural behavior\, while others managed to push for policy changes. On the other hand\, some campaigns have led to significant backlash and were accused of harming or diluting feminist causes rather than promoting them. \nThis panel aims to explore the factors that shape a successful feminist campaign and will look at the importance of balancing between the qualitative and quantitative results without compromising credibility\, values\, and messaging. It was launched in 2017 by Hazem Zureiqat\, Tarek Zureiqat\, and Ramsey Tesdell. Sowt curates and produces podcasts on issues of political\, social\, and cultural nature. \nDuration: 90 minutes \nFeminist podcasts have been on the rise in recent years because of the growing interest in feminist perspectives and the desire for a platform to discuss issues affecting women and marginalized communities. These feminist podcasts tackle a wide range of topics related to gender equality\, women’s rights\, gender-based violence\, workplace inequality\, sexual health\, reproductive rights\, intersectionality\, body positivity\, and many others. Other progressive podcasts have increasingly featured feminist voices to better analyze issues. With that said\, we will provide a how-to workshop on the best ways to create (feminist) podcasts for content creators to leverage this medium further. \nWorkshop: How To Utilize Gender-Transformative Language: \nFacilitator /Trainer: نحو وعي نسوي \nNahw Wa’i Nusawi (Toward Feminist Awareness) is an African queer feminist blog established in 2017. It provides a safe and liberating platform for discussing feminist issues within the context of intersecting systems of oppression. The blog aims to analyze and dismantle structures such as colonialism\, patriarchy\, heteronormativity\, capitalism\, racism\, and migration. It also seeks to archive feminist activism in the North Africa and Middle East region by sharing writings\, personal experiences\, translations\, and studies. The ultimate goal is to create alternative feminist knowledge and promote dialogue on women’s issues and gender identities. \nDuration: 90 minutes \nWhen creating feminist content that tackles sensitive issues like honor killing\, rape\, gender-based violence or even socio-political crises\, it’s crucial to use language that is carefully crafted and delicately phrased to ensure our messages are not compromised and that we are achieving gender-transformative change through the language we use. Intersectional feminist language is a vital tool that is able to dismantle stereotypes and showcase oppression and inequalities. Therefore\, this how-to workshop will focus on how content creators can better apply gender-transformative and intersectional feminist language in their work. \nPanel 3: Intersectional feminism as a tool for justice \nSpeakers: Souad Souilem \, Poala Daher \, Jeem \, Medfeminiswiyya (Maya Ammar) \n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n\nModerator: Diana Moukalled \nIn this panel\, we will explore the transformative potential of integrating an intersectional feminist lens and perspective into various online discussions on social\, economic\, environmental and political challenges\, highlighting how intersectional feminism not only challenges patriarchy but also aims to dismantle all systems of oppression. \nThe discussion will involve compelling examples of how specific types of intersectional feminist content\, campaigns\, and movements have contributed to significant transformation towards gender or social justice while examining how some platforms\, pages\, and activists usually use intersectionality beyond traditional feminist/women’s issues. \n  \nLoading…
